INDIGENOUS PRIMARY HEALTH CARE POLICY AND RESEARCH NETWORK

Models of Care

Understanding different models of care can offer insights into how health care services are delivered.

Upstream drivers of stress, trauma, pain, and unequal healthcare for addiction treatment are known to exacerbate substance use among all populations, including Indigenous Peoples. However, current care approaches often focus only on immediate factors like comorbidity and lifestyle, which reinforces limited care models.

Despite acknowledging social, economic, and cultural contexts, barriers still exist in accessing comprehensive care that addresses non-medical aspects of addiction.

The Knowledge Platform aims to involve the community in integrating clinical and Indigenous knowledge to develop innovative health care models and treatment pathways for addiction treatment.
